Experience
Lou is a caring and passionate occupational therapist, with extensive experience working with neurodivergent people, and people with disability as a therapist and researcher. She has worked with children and teens, and their families in schools, community settings and private clinics over many years. Lou uses evidence-based interventions, and a calm approach to identify and build on each child’s strengths.
Interests
In OT sessions, Lou is keen to focus on skills and strategies children, young people and families can use to feel safer and more connected. This might mean developing a greater understanding of the ADHD or autistic brain, learning about emotional regulation, sensory awareness and calming tools, or building on fine motor skills. Lou’s interests as an occupational therapist are also around creating systems change, increasing accessibility and inclusion to minimise barriers to participation for us all. This might mean working with a school or kinder to develop more neuro-affirming practices, or a community event to create sensory-safe spaces.
Lou also loves nature, and animals and when not working, can be found volunteering with alpacas and llamas, gardening, walking in the bush, playing with her doggies, or enjoying some live music.
