Children’s Occupational Therapy

Supporting your child’s growth, independence, and confidence

What is occupational therapy?

Occupational therapy helps children develop the skills to feel confident and capable in their daily activities (occupations). Our therapists work with children and their families to build independence and remove barriers that make everyday activities like making friends, learning at school or helping at home challenging.

What does an Occupational Therapist do?

Our therapists work with children and their families to support movement, coordination, and sensory development in babies and toddlers. For young children, play-based therapy and practical strategies help with everyday skills like tying shoelaces, sitting still, making friends, or feeling comfortable in busy environments. By developing motor skills, sensory processing, emotional regulation, and behaviour, we help children embrace their individuality and thrive at home, school, and beyond.

Using playful strategies and goal-orientated activities to help children build essential skills based on their needs and the purpose of therapy. This is done with principles of best practice and evidence in mind.

Personalised Support

Paediatric occupational therapy offers a tailored approach for children to help improve focus, emotional regulation and executive functioning enabling them to actively participate in school, home and social interactions.

Fine and Gross Motor Skills

From improving fine motor skills like handwriting to enhancing gross motor skills like running or climbing, occupational therapy strengthens motor coordination and control, leading to greater self-esteem and independence.

Sensory Processing

Loud noises, bright lights, textures or movement can hinder children who struggle with sensory processing. Occupational therapy helps children manage their responses, making overwhelming feelings easier to navigate.

Supporting Babies with Neurodevelopmental Concerns

We work with infants as young as 8 weeks old, supporting their movement, coordination and development through play-based strategies. Early intervention helps babies reach key developmental milestones and build foundational skills.

Helping Children with Neurological Conditions (CP, ABI, SCI)

We work with children with Cerebral Palsy, Acquired Brain Injury, or Spinal Cord Injury, enhancing mobility, coordination, and independence in self-care, play, and communication so they can navigate daily life and achieve meaningful progress.

OT Support After Traumatic Accidents (TAC Recovery)

Recovery from a traumatic accident can be challenging, but short- and long-term therapy helps children regain independence in daily tasks and activities. Our team provides gentle, goal-oriented support to aid recovery and mobility.

Understanding Social Cues

Social skills are key to friendships, classroom interactions, and self-expression. We help children recognise facial expressions, body language, and tone of voice, fostering confidence in building relationships and navigating social situations.

Independent Living Skills for Adolescents

Independent living skills are key to navigating adolescence and adulthood. We help teens build confidence in catching public transport, cooking, budgeting, shopping, managing household tasks, and preparing for employment.
